My second day of teaching, I began the class collecting the homework I assigned the day before. Overall the class was better but I think I was just because Hannalie, my CT, was in the classroom. After class I took a look at their homework and realized that they basically did not even attempt to do it. The rule across all of the math classes is that you never leave a homework problem blank. Even if they do not know how to complete the problem, they are required to at least try. I had given them half of the last class to begin the work and on average they still did not do 18 to 20 problems. When I assigned the homework I told them that I would be collecting it and made the directions extremely clear. Only one person completed the work that I assigned. This morning I went to both of the homerooms and told the students that anyone who is in my math class needs to meet me in my classroom during first break and if they do not they will get a detention. Most came during their break and they completed the work. I almost broke out in hives when I was yelling at them. The completely hate me. Two boys did not come and I told them that they would be receiving detentions. One of the boys responded by saying, “Great! I cannot wait! See you there!” Of course the entire class laughed and I informed him he could come on Tuesday too. He smirked at me and I asked him if he would like to come on Wednesday as well. He told me that he didn’t think he wanted to come Wednesday. Three people didnt complete the homework that was due today either and all they had to do was print out a picture of themselves, write about themselves, and write their names. I began my lesson by going over their homework they just completed. About half way through I turned around to see two boys passing a note. I asked them to put it on my desk and continued the lesson. After class I looked at the note. It is a drawing of two boys saying “Boredom” and murdering each other with a knife and a gun. HELP ME!!!Lets celebrate This is your moment, this is your moment This is the time, this is the time To get it right tonight, to get it right You don’t wanna let the moment pass you by So common and take this one in a photograph Everything I made as right, I made as loud The night is young and we raise our glass We’ll make it count like the best one we ever had The best one yet, the best one yet "The Best One Yet" - Black Eyed Peas
