This school is awesome!! I cant wait to post pictures of everything! My first day was so great. I got to school and met the teacher I will be working with this semester. She reminds me of Ms. Knight. She seems really strict but she is really nice and funny. I think I will learn a lot from her classroom management because the students really respect her, they learn a lot, and they have fun. There was an assembly right at the beginning of the first day where they introduce me to the students and everything which was nice. During breaks the teachers go to the staff room which is awesome. It is like a little pool house at the side of the school. It has high fences all around. When I first walked through the gate I thought it looked like a staff party or something. Everyone sits outside and smokes or drinks coffee and just chats during their breaks. I met so many people the first day and they all offered me help or a ride if I needed it at any time. Everyone is so nice here. The students are extremely polite and smart. The class size is really small so I am really going to be able to get to know my students well. I sadly missed my second day of school because I was really sick. Sharon and Danie took great care of me though and Michael brought me some CDs to listen to while i was in bed. Friday there weren’t really classes because half of the school went to a cricket game and the other half had a campout initiation type thing. This weekend Sharon and Danie dropped Sharon’s daughter, Laura, off at school in Cape Town. On Friday night I spent the night at Shaw’s house. We walked to dinner and met up with one of her friends. We went out to the bars in town. There are only 4 bars in town since Knysna is so small but it was really fun. Saturday, Shaw and I went to breakfast and then were picked up by her friend Julie and Julie’s 7 year old son. We went to a forest about 10 minutes outside of town and went on a little hike. Then I was picked up by Heather, who is a staff member at Oakhill School. She and her daughter Kira stayed at Sharon’s with me Saturday night. Since Heather lives right down the street with her parents, they came up to the house with dinner and we watched a movie. It was really fun and Heather is really really nice. Sunday Heather took me to lunch 30 minutes outside of town. She took me to a small bakery that had shops all around. Lunch was so good and I was even able to start getting some gifts for my family. I am having the best time!! I sent out some postcards when I was in Port Elizabeth. I hope you all got them! Let me know! I bought some more yesterday so if you haven’t gotten one expect one soon! I will try to post the rest of my pictures tomorrow while I am at school! I miss everyone!!
we miss YOU! keep the posts coming....love the updates!
